ISCHIA. AN ITALIAN PARADISE ISLAND. The perfect backdrop for Gemma Roe shoes
“Heavenly place where the soul gets closer to god and from where a blissful eye on a charming and wonderful scenery”. - Alphonse de Lamartine (french poet, writer, historian and politician) describing the island of Ischia.
Where paradise is real and the wild tropical nature restores the spirit, mind and body and from where you can immerse yourself in its blue crystal clear waters.
Lacco Ameno, where Gemma has stayed, has a secret ‘hidden gem’ beach ‘Negombo’, with white soft sand and is surrounded by tropical wildlife. Negombo has a water park with a plethora of instagram worthy backdrops at every turn. The amazing spa resort Mezzatorre Hotel resides here with incredible views of the ocean.
A true must are the magical Giardini della Mortella: The garden that inspired Gemma with her Island Dreams collection. Walking through this secret garden is like walking through garden of the world with plants and flowers from all over. A cocktail of english roses, palms, and exotic plants with a rainbow array of colours to feast your eyes on.
History lovers must visit the 15th century Aragnonse Castle built on an islet of magma and a climb on Mount Epomeo is a must see for the adventure lovers: a tartufo filled volcano with retreats and scenic paths of panoramic heavens.
‘Walking’ along the connecting streets to the small towns of the island, it is a blessing to discover beautiful white clay rocks exhaling sulphurous steam jets to inhale.
A dip in the picturesque beach of Nitrodi Barano, famous for its skin virtuoso to the skin, gives beautifying essence to your hair and skin.
Ischia is famous for its citrus fruit, red tomatoes grown under the scorching Ischia sun, wild blue fish (that have fed the ancient Romans) and the tastiest palette satisfying pasties - Il Baba all Crema a dessert soaked in rum. Citrus trees engulf the island and the infamous Limoncello is made from the rind of the huge lemons found here.
From Piazza della Chiesa del Soccorso in Forio, one can take in the postcard-like ‘Gemma Roe Sunset’, with a view to the famous Fungo di LaccoAmeno (a mushroom shaped rock) and the Sorgeto bay where water flows at 75°.
Forio, where Gemma’s shoe factory is based, just steps from the beach, is lined with fish restaurants, vespas and long palm tree beaches.
SHOES THAT TAKE YOU GOOD PLACES
INSPIRED BY THE MAGICAL TROPICAL ISLAND OF ISCHIA, ITALY
The Botanical Garden, lined with Gemma’s favourite cacti and tropical plants, is a time for pure relaxation, walking meditation and a nirvana for all the senses. As is diving in the blue waters of Maronti, where pirates once anchored their ships directly on the island, due to the the depth of its waters.
The ancient port and fishing village Monte Sant'Angelo is for romantics (well tho isn’t). With a VIP harbour for luxury yachts…
A tour of Casamicciola for the nightlife and for fashion lovers. There is also one in Ischia Porto, where you can explore the historic hotels, glamorous stores and rub shoulders with celebrities from the world over. Many of Gemma’s wearers can be found here.
